Who We Are

CCJP Blantyre: Advocates for Justice and Human Rights

The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) of the Archdiocese of Blantyre is a social arm of the Catholic Church, which was founded by the Catholic Bishops of Malawi in 1995.

It is a faith-based organisation inspired by the gospel values and the social teachings of the church (STC). It promotes integral human development, economic and political governance, gender and development, social justice, capacity building, and the empowerment of the less privileged in society, especially poor women and children. The commission achieves this through advocacy and lobbying, civic education, mass mobilisation, training and institutional capacity building. This is done by CCJP volunteers (referred to as CCJP animators).

Our Journey

The History of CCJP Blantyre

Founded in 1995, CCJP Blantyre emerged as a response to the challenges of social injustice, poverty, and marginalisation faced by many Malawians. Over the years, we have played a crucial role in Malawi’s democratic transition by equipping communities with knowledge and resources to engage in civic activities, promote accountability, and safeguard human rights, ensuring every voice can be heard and respected.

Since our founding, CCJP Blantyre has been instrumental in advocating for human dignity and social justice. Our dedication to civic education and community mobilisation has empowered countless individuals and groups to champion their rights and influence positive change in their societies.

Our Mission
